So you’re Interested in Camo Wedding Rings?

Congratulations, you are an awesome person and you’re probably going to have one of the coolest wedding rings out of everyone you know. It certainly won’t be boring! A lot of people get stressed out when planning a wedding and understandably so; there are a lot of things to plan. But there is a growing segment of couples that are rejecting the notion of having the perfect fairytale wedding. Fairytale weddings require lots of planning and often tens of thousands of dollars. It’s becoming more popular to do things a little differently, a little more non-traditional. Couples are planning weddings that reflect their personality and their style. They want a meaningful event that celebrates their love and commitment while also showcasing who they are and what’s important to them as a couple. We think that’s awesome! One of the styles or themes that people are electing to showcase in their weddings is a love of the great outdoors. Maybe you’re one of them. Lots of people love spending their time enjoying outdoor pursuits like hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, bird watching, etc. Many of these people choose to wear camouflage clothing while participating in their outdoor activities.

The traditional use of camouflage was to help hunters blend into the background and avoid detection from whatever wily animal they were hunting, but camo has become much more than that these days. While hunters still wear camo to hide, it has also taken up a role of being a symbol for the entire outdoor community. A way to signal to everyone else and let them know, Yes, I love the outdoors and I am proud of it. Camouflage is more popular than it’s ever been and some people are choosing camo as a way to incorporate their love of the outdoors (or just their love of camo) into their weddings. It’s the ultimate means to show your guests that you are serious about your outdoor pursuits. A way to say: this is who we are, this is what we love, and this is our style. While some brides have gone as far as wearing camouflage wedding dresses alongside grooms dressed in camouflage tuxedos, a much more popular means of incorporating camouflage into the wedding ceremony is with camo wedding rings. The wedding ring itself is a small item, but it plays a big role in the marriage as a symbol of your love and commitment. If you choose a camo ring, it will serve as a constant reminder of your love, not only for your spouse, but for the great outdoors. Or maybe you just wanted a ring that was different than everyone else’s. That’s ok, too!

What Makes Camo Wedding Rings so Different?

It s actually not that much different. For the most part, the ring is going to be very similar in composition to any other wedding band (except for the camo, obviously). Unlike a traditional wedding band which is often made of precious metal (gold, platinum, etc.), these non-traditional bands are made of metals like titanium, tungsten, stainless steel or zirconium (Black Ceramic).

There are different ways that manufacturers go about creating these wedding rings and some of the more popular options are the camo inlay and the camo wrap.

Camo Inlay

The camouflage inlay seems to be by far the most popular option available today. The ring maker would start with a normal band made of titanium (or similar metal). This band often ranges from 6mm wide to 8mm wide. There is a channel in the band (usually half the width of the full width of the ring). A camouflage inlay would then be inserted into the channel.

Camouflage Wrap

Another method of creating camouflage rings is the camouflage wrap. Using this method, a manufacturer will take an existing metal band and wrap the camouflage material all around it using a specific process. This would be similar to how they create gunstocks and other hunting materials with camouflage on them. The wrap is made with a material that is designed to endure wear and tear so it is a good option for something like a ring which sees a lot of action.

One cool thing about the wrapping process is that it allows for customization and you may even be able to work with the manufacturer to wrap your existing ring instead of starting with one of their blanks.

Another method of creating a camouflage ring is by using fancy machines and lasers that will cut the actual metal to look like camouflage. These are pretty cool looking rings, but the camo isn’t quite the same as the patterns we typically see when we are talking about hunting camouflage.

As far as the actual camo on your ring, it seems like the most popular options are hunting camos like Realtree and Mossy Oak. The selection and variety will obviously depend on where you end up getting your ring from.

Another option that isn’t quite as common but still quite popular is the digital camouflage employed by the military. The military population is a whole different set of people that are also choosing to incorporate camouflage into their weddings and marriages.

Are Camo Wedding Rings Just for Men?

No! While it s safe to say that the vast majority of camo rings are made as men’s wedding bands, options do exist for women. In some ways, it’s a lot easier for a man to have a non-traditional ring because not everyone is oohing and awing over it like they do the lady’s ring. It’s also a generalization (but probably true) that the man is more likely to be the outdoorsy one in the relationship, so that’s another reason that camouflage rings would be more popular for men. Camouflage itself is very unisex, so it’s just a matter of finding a ring that is sized to fit a woman’s finger. Many of the men’s bands on the market today are available in a wide range of sizes, including smaller sizes for women. There are also rings out there that exist purely for women. One popular option for women is to have a camo band that also features gemstones. The best of both world’s for woman who love the outdoors. Pink camouflage patterns are also another popular option.

Are There any Downsides to Going with a Camo Wedding Ring?

So are there any downsides to getting a camo wedding ring? Well, if you’re the type that doesn’t like to be the center of attention, you might not want to pick such a non-traditional ring because you are sure to get some attention for it. Unlike the original purpose of camouflage, a camo wedding ring isn’t going to help you blend into the background. It’s bound to make you stick out and will be sure to draw a lot of attention. People are going to ask you questions like where did you get it and why are you so awesome?! Honestly, there aren’t really that many disadvantages of owning a camo ring. Oh, I know, it might be harder to find if you lose it! I m not kidding. Thousands of people lose rings every year (and those are usually bright and shiny ones!). Imagine dropping your new camouflage ring in the forest. You might as well not even bother looking for it! Your ring is designed to look like leaves and sticks. Good luck. It s going to be like finding a needle in a stack of needles. You’ll probably have to call a friend with a metal detector.

The good news is that these rings are considerably less expensive than a traditional wedding band that would be made of a precious metal. The price of a camo wedding ring definitely varies on where you get it and what kind you get, but on average, you can expect to spend anywhere from $200 to $500. If you want to include a gemstone, obviously the price will go up. At these prices, the good news is that if you lose it, you can at least buy a replacement without going bankrupt.
